STEM Program

STEM Feature

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM):

One of our Chapter objectives is “To seek out, inform, encourage and assist outstanding, qualified young men and women to pursue careers as officers in the Navy and Marine Corps, primarily but not exclusively commissioned through the Naval Academy.” One way we have decided to achieve this objective is to support the advancement of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) activities in the local area.By establishing outreach connections with local school districts and other STEM activities, the Chapter hopes to leverage its membership’s vast engineering expertise and experience to foster the importance of a strong science, technology, engineering, and mathematics based education for all students. The Chapter has established connections with the Academy’s  STEM Program Office to learn more about the Summer STEM Program. The primary goal of the Academy’s Summer STEM Program is to encourage participating students to enroll in the requisite preparatory math and science courses while they are in high school in order to best prepare them to study these subjects in college. In an effort to recognize student efforts, high academic achievement, and their potential to embrace a career in the science and engineering disciplines, the Chapter awards tuition scholarships to deserving young men and women in our area who will be attending the STEM Camp at USNA. Watch this site for additional information as the summer approaches.
If you are aware of a STEM related event and want to encourage Chapter participation and support, please contact Phil Salinas to discuss in more detail.
